On Sunday, October 5, Mike Woods of Cobb Cole, and a small group of cyclists will pedal for numerous miles through Seminole and Volusia counties in the Cycle for Life. Below is a segment of a letter from Mike Woods regarding his son and the event.
"As some of you may know, I've become very involved with the Central Florida Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. My son Tobin was formally diagnosed with CF shortly after his birth last year. CF is a genetic disease that impacts how the body transfers salt from cell to cell. As a result, CF patients have to deal with overly thick and sticky mucus. This mucus can clog the lungs and lead to a cyclical pattern of lung infections. It also blocks nutrient absorption leading to pancreatic and other digestive issues. There is no cure at present, but treatment improvements have bumped the average life expectancy into the thirties and forties. This is tremendous as CF patients rarely lived to elementary school age just a few decades ago...Many of the fundraisers that the CF Foundation holds are based on outdoor activities. On Sunday, October 5th, the CF Foundation will hold the Cycle for Life, a bicycle ride which starts in Lake Mary and rides through Volusia. My team for the ride, is Tobin's Two-Wheelers...There are only 30,000 people in the US with CF and about 70,000 worldwide. With such a small cohort, we are very much dependent on those not directly impacted by CF to spread the word and help raise awareness and funds for research. The CF website (www.cff.org) has more detailed information and I am always available to answer any questions or speak on behalf of the CF Foundation at other local organizations. However, If you are interested in helping with the ride, please visit the link below and sign up to participate or support Ted and Robin's efforts with a donation. Every little bit helps." ~Mike Woods

New-Home Sales Top 500,000 in August, Highest Level Since 2008
September 24, 2014- Sales of newly built, single-family homes increased 18 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 504,000 units in August, the high
est level in six years, according to newly released data by th
e U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau.
"This jump in sales activity is in line with our latest surveys, which indicate builders are seeing increased traffic and more serious buyers in the market for single-family homes," said Kevin Kelly, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del.
"This robust level of new-home sales activity is a good sign that the housing recovery is moving towards higher ground," said NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe. "Historically low mortgage rates, attractive home prices and firming job and economic growth should keep the housing market moving forward in 2014."
Regionally, new home sales rose 50 percent in the West, 29.2 percent in the Northeast and 7.8 percent in the South. Sales were unchanged in the Midwest. The inventory of new homes for sale edged up to 203,000 in August, which is a slim 4.8-month supply at the current sales pace.
